What is changing with transaction fees in Netball Connect?

From the 1^st October 2026 there will be a ban on all card surcharges on EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard Transactions.

Transaction fees will no longer be added at the end of a transaction.

Instead, all fees will be incorporated into the upfront price, meaning participants will see a single total amount before payment with no additional charges at checkout.

Are these new fees?

No.

Transaction (payment processing) fees have always existed. The change only affects how they are displayed and applied, not whether they are charged.

What were the previous transaction fees?

Previously, fees were charged as an additional amount at checkout:
2.25% + $0.30 per transaction

How will transaction fees work now?

Transaction fees will be applied as a percentage-based amount (2.48%), which must be included in the pricing set by:

• Clubs
• Associations
• Leagues
• Netball Victoria

This means the total fee charged to participants already includes the transaction cost.

Who pays the transaction fee?

The transaction fee is always charged to the organisation (club, association, or league).

It is:

• Deducted directly from your Stripe account
• Applied regardless of whether you include it in your pricing

What happens if we don’t include the fee in our pricing?

If you do not include the transaction fee in your pricing:

Your organisation will absorb the cost

Important:
The fee is still deducted from your Stripe account, even if you choose not to pass it on to participants.

How do funds flow through Stripe?

There is no change to how funds are processed:

• Payments are made by participants
• Funds are deposited into your Stripe account
• Transaction fees are deducted from those funds
• You receive the net amount after fees

This has always been the case where Stripe payout is selected in Netball Connect.

Why is this change being made?

This change aligns with Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) regulatory requirements, which focus on:

• Improved price transparency
• Eliminating surprise or hidden fees
• Ensuring participants see the total cost upfront

What does this mean for participants?

Participants will:

• See one total price
• Pay exactly that amount
• Not encounter:
  • Additional transaction fees
  • Processing fees
  • Unexpected charges at checkout

How is this different from PlayHQ (for leagues)?

For leagues familiar with PlayHQ:

• PlayHQ:
  • Adds a 1.3% technology fee at checkout
  • This fee is applied on top of the total transaction
• Netball Connect:
  • No fees are added at checkout
  • All costs must be included upfront in pricing

This is a key difference — no additional charges will appear at checkout in Netball Connect

What do we need to do as an organisation?

You will need to:

1. Review your current pricing
2. Include a percentage allowance (x%) for transaction fees
3. Ensure your total fee covers:
   • Your program/registration costs
   • The transaction processing cost

Will Netball Connect calculate this for us?

You will be responsible for factoring the percentage into your pricing when setting fees.

Support will be available to help ensure your pricing is set correctly.

Does this simplify the payment experience?

Yes.

How can I track the transaction fees debited from our Stripe account?

In the Finance module export the Stripe for Withdrawal report. Transaction fees will listed.
